Kayaker's death likely a suicide

STRATHAM — The death of a kayaker whose body was found in the Squamscott River last month has been termed a likely suicide.

State Fish and Game officers said the woman, Ann Colcord, disappeared the night of June 24.

Her body was found late the next morning, a short distance from her kayak.

“From what we could see, it was a self-inflicted drowning,” said Fish and Game Lt. Mike Eastman.

The kayak was found tied to an eel trap in about 12 feet of water.

Eastman said the woman, in her 60s, would often take her kayak to that area of the river.
