DEERFIELD — The girl found dead after a search by searchers in Deerfield this weekend has been identified as Rose Robert of Deerfield, a recent middle school graduate of the Deerfield Community School.
The girl was found dead near South Road, a short distance from her home, on Saturday, hours after family, friends, neighbors and law enforcement officials began a search when she was late returning home.
She had been missing since leaving to go running earlier in the day.
Rose was a June graduate of Deerfield Community School and planned to move on to high school in the fall.
She was found by a searcher who was familiar with the girl's usual jogging route. Police said she suffered a medical emergency while running and collapsed.
Rescuers performed CPR, but the girl was not responsive and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A memorial service for the girl was held at the Deerfield Community School Sunday evening.
The school's PTO posted its condolences to the girl's family and included a quote she wrote for the school yearbook: "They can turn off the sun, but we all still shine," she wrote. "We all met for a reason. Remember that."
