Former Sununu aide nominated to Federal Communications Commission
Michael O’Rielly was on Sununu legislative staff between from 2003 to 2009, first as his top adviser for telecommunications policy and Senate Commerce Committee issues and then as legislative director, managing his Washington staff.
He succeeded Jamie Burnett in that post.
He is currently a policy adviser to Sen. John Cornwyn, R-Texas.
O’Rielley’s nomination is subject to approval of the Senate Commerce Committee and the full Senate.
Sununu said O’Rielly’s “command of technology and communications policy was second to none. More important, he possess tremendous personal and professional integrity. He will be an outstanding commissioner.”
Burnett said O’Rielly “is one of the most knowledgeable people on communications policy that I’ve known.”
And Sen. Kelley Ayotte said O’Rielly’s “experience with New Hampshire’s rural communication challenges and his keen understanding of the many communications issues facing our nation will be invaluable assets to the Granite State and the country.”
