Plymouth State University has announced that it will induct six new members into the PSU Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, Oct. 19.
This will mark the 29th group inducted. They are: Steve Colonna, Tony Martinez, Russ Massahos, Pat McNamara, Lilly Silva and Traci Walker Griffith.
Colonna (1999) is a former four-year veteran defenseman and two-year captain of the Panther men's ice hockey team and a two-time Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association All-Star. He is a Falmouth, Mass., native.
Martinez (2001), of Barnstead, was a two-time Little East Conference First Team All-Star power forward for the Panther men's basketball team who ranks fourth on PSU's career scoring list.
A Derry native, Massahos (2002) was a four-year starting running back for the Panthers. He was a three-time Freedom Football Conference All-Star and ranks third on PSU's career rushing list.
McNamara (1986) was a men's skiing All-American who captured national championships in slalom and combined alpine and helped the Panthers to a national team title in 1985. He is originally from Ridgefield, Conn.
Silva (2006) was a two-time All-New England star for PSU in field hockey who was a Little East Conference Player of the Year and finished her career as PSU's all-time leading scorer. She is from Lowell, Mass.
Walker Griffith (1991) of Framingham, Mass., was a Panther women's soccer star who set single-game, season and career scoring records and helped lead the team to four NCAA Tournaments.
The Hall of Fame activities will take place at The Common Man Inn in Plymouth at 5 p.m. (reception) followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and the induction ceremony at 7 p.m.
Colby-Sawyer names new men's soccer coach
Colby-Sawyer athletic director Deb McGrath has announced the hiring of Craig Wilkinson as the new head coach of the men's soccer program.
Wilkinson takes over a program that had a 7-12-1 record in its first two seasons in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC). The 2013 season will open at home against Elms on Aug. 31 and the first NAC game will be Sept. 28 at Johnson State.
Wilkinson comes to Colby-Sawyer after one season as assistant men's soccer coach at Francis Marion University. Prior to that, he was head coach at Concordia College in 2011 and spent 2010 as an assistant coach at Centenary College as well as three seasons (2006, 2008-09) as an associate head coach at Dominican College.
Former Memorial player finishes college lax career
Steven Delahanty (Auburn), a Manchester Memorial graduate, completed his senior year with the Nichols College men's lacrosse team in June. Delahanty was a four-year member of the team and for the second year in a row was named to the All-Academic Team for the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
