Fisher Cats break out against Squirrels

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats escaped their hitting doldrums Friday night with an 11-2 win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Friday at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

Kevin Ahrens clubbed a three-run homer and A.J. Jimenez had a two-run bomb for New Hampshire, which compiled 15 hits off four Richmond pitchers.

Kevin Nolan, of Nashua, drove in three on a two-run double in the third and a first-inning groundout.

Deck McGuire earned his seventh win with eight innings of four-hit, two-run ball. He struck out six and walked only one to improve his record to 7-9.

Edwin Escobar (3-3) absorbed the loss, giving up five runs (four earned) and eight hits in four innings.

New Hampshire trailed 2-1 but took control with a four-run third inning, keyed by Nolan’s double and Jimenez’s homer. They tacked on three in the fifth thanks to Ahrens’ home run, and another three in the sixth on two wild pitches and a sacrifice fly.

The two teams play Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Marcus Walden (6-12) pitches for the Fisher Cats while Taylor Rogers (5-7) goes for Richmond.
