Derry officials say administrator to remain on paid leave

DERRY — For the second time in just over a month, the Derry Town Council held an emergency meeting to deal with allegations against Town Administrator John Anderson.

On Friday afternoon, the council met in a non-public session and resolved to keep Anderson on paid administrative leave pending a Town Council inquiry into criminal charges against him.

Anderson was charged Friday with indecent exposure and lewdness resulting from an incident at his home on July 11.

Anderson makes just under $125,000 per year.

On July 12, the council during an emergency meeting voted to place Anderson on paid administrative leave pending an investigation. At that time, the council also voted to appoint assistant Town Administrator Larry Budreau as acting town administrator and made him the official town spokesman for all inquiries into the case involving Anderson.

Under the town charter, the Town Council is able to inquire about and investigate incidents involving town employees, Budreau said.

“We anticipate the inquiry to be expeditious, and we hope to have it concluded within a week,” said Budreau.

Budreau said he had no reaction to allegations against Anderson.

Councilor Mark Osborne said he respected the council vote to have Budreau act as the town spokesman on the Anderson issue and referred all questions to Budreau.
