A-Rod denies he leaked PED names

BOSTON — Alex Rodriguez denied a report by CBS's "60 Minutes" that members of his "inner circle" obtained and leaked information damaging to Yankees teammate Francisco Cervelli and former NL MVP Ryan Braun regarding the Biogenesis steroids scandal.

“It’s not true,” A-Rod said before warning that similarly unflattering reports could be on the way.

“We’re all going to have to expect a bumpy road. It’s going to get worse every day,” Rodriguez said during a four-minute pause in the Yankees’ dugout prior to Friday’s series opener against the first-place Red Sox.

“I would expect bigger and bigger stories to come out every day,” A-Rod said. “It’s frustrating because the game is doing so well, the team is playing relatively well, we’re excited obviously in playing one of the best teams in baseball in Boston.”

Rodriguez said he spoke to Cervelli and that “he understands it’s not true.” A-Rod said he hadn’t yet spoken to Braun but planned to talk to Boston veterans Dustin Pedroia and David Ortiz “so they have a full understanding this is not true.”

Braun and Cervelli are among the players serving suspensions for performance-enhancing drug use while A-Rod appeals his massive 211-game ban for repeated use and violations of the collective bargaining agreement.

It’s a situation that AL East foes John Lackey and Evan Longoria have recently spoken out against, though Rodriguez only smiled and refused to answer a question about their opinions.

“I’ve got a problem with it, you bet I do. How’s he still playing?” Lackey, Saturday’s Boston starter, told The Boston Globe. “It’s pretty evident that he’s been doing stuff for a lot of years I’ve been facing him.”

According to the “60 Minutes” report, Rodriguez’s handlers obtained and leaked to Yahoo! Sports handwritten documents of Anthony Bosch, MLB’s key witness, that implicated other players just days after the Miami New Times reported A-Rod’s extensive ties to Biogenesis and PED use.

“You hope it’s not true ... the last thing you want to do is throw someone under the bus,” Vernon Wells said.

But Wells and Curtis Granderson both voiced support for their teammate as the appeals process — not expected to be resolved until November — plays out.

“If Alex denies it, I’m going with Alex,” Granderson said. “A teammate is a teammate and I trust my teammates.”
