Auto dealers kick in $250K for new Exeter YMCA
At a presentation Tuesday night, the Exeter Area New Car Dealers Association gave the largest single donation in its more than 40-year history.
"We did our homework, and this is a terrific community investment," said Larry Foss, president of Exeter Area New Car Dealers. "We scrutinized the plans for the new YMCA, and after reviewing the numbers we realized this was the right project for this kind of financial award. We are proud to be partnering with such a terrific organization."
Bernstein would not reveal how much money has been raised for the project, saying only that the YMCA is in the "quiet phase" of the capital campaign.
"Their lead gift will have an enduring impact on this community, leaving a legacy for generations," she said.
After that first phase was completed, the YMCA launched its campaign to raise the $3.5 million for the construction of the 30,000-square-feet building.
"This generous donation proves once again, when we all come together to care for each other we change lives and all get stronger. My heartfelt thanks to the Exeter Area New Car Dealers; their generosity will benefit children and strengthen families," Hassan said.
