Tractor-trailer accident closes two lanes of Route 93 northbound
SALEM – An accident involving a tractor trailer and two other vehicles closed down two lanes of Route 93 Northbound in Salem late Tuesday morning.
The Salem Fire Department received a 911 call about the accident at 11:10 a.m., and when crews arrived at the scene between exits 1 and 2, there was heavy damage to the three vehicles involved in the accident, according to fire Captain Jonathan Brackett.
According to state police, a 2013 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by Dale Edson, 36, of Swanzey, struck a 2000 Chrysler LHS operated by James Palleschi, 80, of Hampton. A third vehicle, driven by Janet Seidi, 49, of Wellesley, Mass. was then hit.
“Everyone was out of their vehicles on our arrival, and there was significant damage to all the vehicles," said Brackett. "We shut down two lanes with the assistance of the state police."
I-93 was reduced to one lane of traffic for about 45 minutes while police investigated. The lanes were reopened once the vehicles were towed from the scene.
The fire department transported five people to local hospitals. Brackett said none of the injuries appeared to be life threatening. The only person involved in the accident who wasn't transported was the driver of the tractor trailer.
When the fire department left the scene around 12:30 p.m., Brackett said there were still several lanes of the highway closed and there was a heavy state police presence on the scene.
Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor, state police said.
The investigation is continuing and any with information concerning it is asked to call state police Trooper Malachi Hicks at 672-3333.
