Fisher Cats drop final home game to Portland, now one loss from playoff elimination

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats were pushed to the brink after a 9-3 loss to Portland at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium Thursday night.

While the Trenton Thunder lost to New Britain, 4-1, in 13 innings on Thursday, the Fishers' loss pushed the magic number for Trenton to clinch a playoff berth to 1.
If Trenton wins Friday at Portland, or New Hampshire loses at Binghamton, New Hampshire (67-71) is out of playoff contention.

Portland (68-70) remains alive and will play Trenton over the next five games with a shot at second place and the final playoff spot in the East Division.

The Fisher Cats close the season on the road with four games at Binghamton.

The Sea Dogs led 2-0 after one inning, but the Fisher Cats came back to claim a 3-2 lead in the third.

Trailing 2-1 to open the third, New Hampshire's Andy Burns walked, stole second base and then scored on an Adam Loewen double. Kevin Nolan singled Loewen home to make it 3-2.

The Sea Dogs tied the game with a run in the fifth and took a 4-3 lead with one in the sixth before adding two in the eighth and three more in the ninth.

Keith Couch (11-3) got the win for Portland. Reliever Tyson Brummett (1-7) took the loss. Portland's J.C. Linares went 4-for-5 with two RBIs.
