Londonderry's Ryan Griffin makes Houston Texans' roster

After compiling some record-breaking statistics in the preseason, Londonderry resident Ryan Griffin has made the Houston Texans 53-man roster.

Griffin, a tight end who played at Londonderry High School and then at the University of Connecticut, set Houston's preseason record for receptions (14) and yardage (173) by a receiver this year. Griffin had five receptions for 87 yards in Houston's 24-6 preseason victory over Dallas on Thursday night.

Houston selected Griffin in the sixth round (201st pick) in this year's draft. He played three years of football at the New Hampton School before he transferred to Londonderry for his senior season.

Houston will open the regular season Sept. 9 at San Diego, where Griffin and Nashua's Kendall Reyes will be on opposite sidelines. Reyes, a defensive lineman who played for Nashua North, also attended the University of Connecticut. San Diego chose Reyes in the second round of the 2012 draft.

Seattle picked former UNH defensive lineman Jared Smith in the seventh round of this year's draft. Smith, who was moved to the offensive line, was released by the Seahawks on Saturday during finals cuts as they got down to their 53-man limit.

Former UNH defensive back Corey Graham made the Baltimore Ravens roster. Graham played for the Chicago Bears from 2007 to 2011, and joined the Ravens last season.
