Elderly Maine couple killed in Barrington accident

BARRINGTON – An elderly couple from Maine were killed in a head-on crash on Route 202 late Sunday night, according to State Police.
Troopers said a Ford pick-up truck drove into the path of a 2007 Ford Edge driven by Joel McLain, 77, of Biddeford, Maine. His wife, Maxine McLain, 77, was a passenger in the vehicle.
Joel McLain was pronounced dead at the scene, Maxine McLain was taken to Frisbie Memorial Hospital where she later died.
Police said they were still investigating why the pick-up truck, driven by John Shaw, 48, of Barrington, crossed the center line into the path of the McLain's car. Shaw was thrown from his truck and taken to Frisbie Hospital where he was treated.
Shaw's truck was traveling west on Route 202 at the time of the crash. The road was closed between routes 9 and 126 while state and local police investigated. Anyone with information is asked to call Trooper Thomas Conlon at the Troop A barracks at 603-223-8490.
