Londonderry broke open a close game with a 21-0 second quarter and cruised to a 49-14 win over Manchester West in NHIAA football action Friday night. The Lancers (1-0) rolled up 482 rushing yards.

Aaron Gaudet (two touchdowns, 56 yards on five carries) and Dennis Bishop (two touchdowns, 174 yards on nine carries) led the way.

Jonathan Young (TD, 50 yards on nine carries), Eric Fairweather (TD, 114 yards on four carries) and Dave Weidenfield (TD, 50 yards on six carries) rounded out the ground assault.

Zach Theriault threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to Ricky Rivera for West's first score (making the game 7-7 in the first quarter. A Killian Bullock fumble recovery for a touchdown accounted for West's (0-1) other score.

Timberlane 20, Alvirne 14: At Hudson, The Owls marched 98 yards to the winning score, a 2-yard Tyler Furey run with five minutes and 30 seconds left in the game. Erik Nelson hit Zach Downey for the two-point conversion.

Furey carried 31 times for 173 yards and two scores. Nelson also connected with Downey for a 68-yard touchdown pass.

Alvirne crossed midfield in the closing minutes and the Owls held on downs to secure the win.

Monadnock 40, Souhegan 7: Monadnock of Swanzey, last year’s Division V champion, made a huge Division II statement right out of the gate with a 40-7 rout of Souhegan on Friday.

The Huskies scored early and often against the visiting Sabers. They were up 20-0 with a little less than four minutes remaining in the opening quarter and upped the lead to 33-0 by halftime.

Isaiah Prince, Monadnock’s first-year quarterback, was immense. He ran for three touchdowns and ran for another.

Monadnock is a Division III team by enrollment, but was placed in Division II.

"We have some talent coming back," Monadnock coach Linwood Patnode said before the season began.

Clearly.

"I’m not going to underplay our team," Patnode said. "The schedule is what it is. We don’t have it in our heads that we’re a Division III school playing in Division II."
