SALEM - The Philadelphia Eagles got off to a flying start on Monday Night Football last week, and thanks to a Salem-based company, their fans will be better able to keep pace through a new stadium Wi-Fi network.
Enterasys Networks has equipped Lincoln Financial Field with its IdentiFi Wi-Fi system. The technology will allow fans at the stadium, which has a capacity of more than 69,000, the bandwidth needed to download and access multi-media applications, according to Enterasys President and CEO Chris Crowell.
Enterasys will provide Wi-Fi access for free across the complex, including in all the seating areas, the club level, locker rooms and the press box.
"Our work with the Eagles is an example of the league-wide trend to use technology to improve the fan experience and drive stadium attendance," said Crowell. "Today's highly connected sports fan desires the capability to share game experiences in real time, which requires always-on connectivity to do so. Our partnership will bring Lincoln Financial Field into the next generation of connected stadiums."
Enterasys, which is a Siemens Enterprise Communications company, knows something about bringing the best connected experience to sports stadiums. Recently, it did work for the New England Patriots and the University of New Hampshire.
"We continue to see a tremendous amount of interest in improving the in-game experience through high-density Wi-Fi at both the collegiate and professional level," said John Brams, Enterasys director of venues and hospitality.
"These organizations realize they need to offer a richer experience at games. In addition, teams are looking for valuable insight from the network into what fans need and how to provide a better experience for those at the venue."
Philadelphia Eagles President Don Smolenski said he's excited about working with Enterasys.
"This free wireless network at Lincoln Financial Field will allow our fans to check stats around the league, stream the NFL Red Zone channel, and, of course, log onto our Eagles mobile app," he said.
