Pelham plaza arrest is latest to result from police presence
PELHAM — Police arrested a 21-year-old Plaistow man in the Hannaford Plaza last Friday afternoon on an outstanding warrant for the sale of marijuana.
In response to reports of increased drug and theft activity in the plaza parking lot, plainclothes officers have been keeping a close eye on the area, Lt. Brian McCarthy said.
In addition to the arrest of Nikoletti Nachef, police have made several other drug-related arrests at the plaza over the past month.
According to McCarthy, Nachef was acting suspiciously in the parking lot. Detectives went over to talk to him and learned of the active warrant against him.
The detectives also saw there was a hypodermic needle in Nachef’s car and an open bag with what they believed was drug residue.
The car, a 1999 Audi A6, was held at the police station pending a search warrant. According to McCarthy, there may be further charges against Nachef.
Also on Friday, police responded to 15 car break-ins within a 24-hour period on Dodge Road, Kopers Lane, Indian Valley Road, Pelham Road, and Plower Road.
Items stolen from the vehicles included small change, cash, wallets, electronics, and car keys, according to McCarthy. He urged residents to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity in the area and to keep their vehicles locked at all times.
