The U.S. Department of Energy will host four public hearings this week to discuss the proposed Northern Pass electric transmission line project.
The meetings are from 6 to 9 tonight at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord, from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Silver Center for the Arts at Plymouth State University, from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Mountain View Grand Resort and Spa in Whitefield and from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Colebrook Elementary School.
The controversial project would bring 1,200 megawatts of electricity from Canada through New Hampshire and proposes to build taller transmission towers that the project’s opponents say would harm scenic views and property values.
Meanwhile, Gov. Maggie Hassan recently responded to a Boston Globe editorial that opined that the project’s gains outweigh its costs, in which she wrote that she was disappointed that “the Globe perpetuated the myth that large-scale hydroelectric power and Northern Pass are one in the same.”
