Memorial Bridge closures scheduled for this week

PORTSMOUTH — The Memorial Bridge will be closed to all traffic for three, five-hour periods overnight this week.

The closures will take place Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from midnight to 5 a.m.

Archer Western Contractors will be making adjustments to the lift machinery during this time.

Steve DelGrosso, project manager for Archer Western, said the lift span machinery has generally been working smoothly since the bridge was opened to traffic in early August, and overall the design/build team is pleased with its performance.

Following this week’s work, the bridge is expected to remain open to traffic until some time next month, when the eagle and memorial plaque from the old bridge will be remounted on the Portsmouth end of the new bridge.
