Nashua sees new brand as promise of a bright future

NASHUA — Everyone has an opinion about the city’s new brand platform, which was officially unveiled Wednesday during a celebratory launch party where city leaders dared the community to dream, think big and continue to improve.

“Dare to Begin,” Nashua’s new motto, received a welcoming reception with great fanfare as the sun set along the edge of the Nashua River. A crowd of about 300 people gathered to learn more about the city’s new brand platform and how it will be used to promote the city with a positive vibe and promising growth.

“The message is important to us as a city,” said Alderman Mike Tabacsko.

The project has been a joint effort by the city and the Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce, which combined raised $105,000 for the branding campaign that was created by MESH Interactive Agency of Nashua with help from North Star Destination Strategies of Tennessee.

Dare to begin. It is a salute to Nashua’s history and to the founders of the city, according to Tom Galligani, the city’s economic development director.

The tagline encourages businesses and citizens to think big, tackle the impossible and take risks, while also providing an invitation to those who are considering a move into Nashua, said Galligani.Mayor Donnalee Lozeau congratulated the many people who helped develop the new brand.

Lozeau described the city as a great car with a really good engine that is still going strong.

“I get to be the cheerleader for this city,” said Lozeau, adding she is honored to be the mayor of such a tremendous community with people who are genuinely invested in making it even better.

The new logo is a three-dimensional image that incorporates a rising yellow sun, a two-tone blue infinity symbol representing the Nashua and Merrimack rivers, and a splash of green to mark New Hampshire’s natural beauty.

Residents attending Wednesday’s launch party each had their own take on the new brand platform.

“If a community doesn’t think about what it wants to be, it certainly can’t get there,” said Maryellen Tansey, a Nashua resident. “Having this vision is the first step, so I commend the city for taking this step ahead.”

Andrew Shallcross, who moved to Nashua earlier this year, says he has quickly grown to appreciate the Gate City for what it has to offer, but more importantly, what it may offer in the future.

“I know that this place has massive potential — that is why I am here,” said Shallcross. “It is like Nashua is sitting on a giant pocket of oil but it just hasn’t quite figured it out yet.”
