Mass. points finger at NH/Vt. hunting seasons in response to backlash over bear killing
"The bear was euthanized due to the current active New Hampshire and Vermont black bear hunting seasons," said Amy E. Mahler, spokeswoman for the state Department of Energy and Environmental Affairs. "Additionally, Massachusetts environmental police and the state Division of Fish & Wildlife have a joint memorandum of understanding that no chemically immobilized animal is released within 45 days of the hunting season, which is open again on Nov. 4.
