Police arrest woman they say they caught in act of Pelham burglary

PELHAM — A Massachusetts woman police say was caught in the act of burglarizing a Mammoth Road home was arrested Tuesday on charges of burglary.

Police said officers noticed a van with Massachusetts plates that was still running with no occupants while it was parked outside the home about 2 p.m. Tuesday. They found a basement door open and set up a perimeter around the house.

"As they surrounded the house and were ready to make entry into the residence, a female subject exited one of the front doors," police said in a release. They said Lynda Leonard Olson, 61, of Lowell, Mass., told them that she was "just looking around because she knew that the home was vacant."

They said she was trying to steal multiple brass door knobs.

She is scheduled to appear Oct. 21 in Salem District Court.
