Couple's argument blamed for car's rollover on I-93

MANCHESTER — A couple's quarrel is being blamed for Thursday's highway collision in which their vehicle struck a jersey barrier on Interstate 93, rolled over in mid-air several times before landing on its roof across two travel lanes.

Driver Jessie Nudd, 31, suffered minor wounds while her passenger, Jeffrey Hollingworth, 35, broke his left arm in the morning accident at approximately 9:17 a.m. northbound on I-93 just north of Exit 6, state police said.

Preliminary findings indicate Hollingworth yanked the steering wheel as Nudd was driving, causing her to lose control and the car to veer across the highway.

The car crashed into a jersey barrier and flipped over several times in the air, police said.

Nudd and Hollingworth, both of Manchester, were quarreling at the time, police allege.

Hollingworth's actions "not only endangered the lives and safety of the occupants of their vehicle but the motoring public as well," state police wrote in a statement.

Hollingworth was arrested at Elliot Hospital and charged with felony reckless conduct.

The car finally landed on its roof across two travel lanes, blocking northbound traffic until it was cleared from the roadway about an hour later.

The car was destroyed and had to be towed from the scene.

A section of jersey barrier also was damaged.

The collision remains under investigation by Trooper Mark Suttmeier of Troop B.
