Police search for man who robbed Alton bank

ALTON — Police are searching for a man they say robbed the Meredith Village Savings Bank at gunpoint Thursday afternoon.

Police Chief Ryan Heath said a man described as white, 5 feet, 7 inches and 170 pounds carrying a red duffle bag and wearing a black ski mask entered the bank about 4:30 p.m. Thursday and jumped over the counter.

Holding a bank employee at gunpoint, he emptied the teller drawers and fled the scene in a silver four-door sedan.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call police at 875-0757.
