Nashua parking: Two positive changes

On Tuesday night the Nashua aldermen unanimously approved a change that will help downtown businesses. They voted to start the clock ticking on parking meters at 9 a.m. rather than 8 a.m.

This reverses a policy put in place only two years ago, when the parking meter start time was set at 8 a.m. As a consequence of that early start, dining at downtown breakfast spots was discouraged. As is often the case, the city’s push for revenue caused more problems than it was worth.

Good for the aldermen for admitting this mistake rather than digging in. The city will benefit as a result.

Aldermen also approved on-street overnight parking for residents on the Tree Streets. Again they listened to complaints from the people and took steps to eliminate a burden. Good for them.
