NHIAA Boys' Soccer: Alvirne boys edge Salem

SALEM — Sometimes it’s not how you play the game, but how you finish.

Despite outplaying Alvirne most of the game, it was the Broncos that came out on top of Salem, 2-1, thanks to two goals coming late in the halves.

Alvirne is 10-2. The Broncos have won seven straight. Salem is 7-5.

“We were unlucky,” said Blue Devils head coach Tony Karibian. “I think the guys turned it on. We took some risks but those are the breaks.”

The game was scoreless through most of the fist half until Kyle Salucco scored at the 37-minute mark to put Alvirne up 1-0. In the second half, Salem Todd Righini found freshman forward Andrew Fischera, who put it past Alvirne goalkeeper Jake Schofield.

In the second half, Salucco found Billy Perry, who redirected the shot into the Salem net to make it 2-1 Alvirne.
