SCARBOROUGH, Maine — Leather shoes and accessories manufacturer Cole Haan is moving its corporate headquarters from Scarborough to Greenland, N.H., according to Kimry Blackwelder, director of public relations for the fashion label founded in Chicago in 1928.
The company had been headquartered in Yarmouth for decades before moving to Scarborough two years ago.
Apax Partners, a global private equity firm with offices in New York City, bought the company from Nike in a cash deal worth $570 million earlier in the year.
"After an analysis of the eastern operations, it was decided to consolidate the corporate headquarters to Greenland, N.H.," Blackwelder told the Bangor Daily News.
She did not offer additional details about how many people Cole Haan employs in Scarborough or when the move would take place, but Karen Martin, executive director of the Scarborough Economic Development Corp., estimated that 110 to 120 people were employed at the company's Scarborough location.
The move combines management and customer service operations, as Cole Haan already operates its customer service center out of 150 Ocean Road in Greenland.
The company once manufactured shoes in Maine, but has since moved those operations overseas.
