NHIAA Girls' Soccer: One goal enough for Pinkerton
DERRY — Katy Ann Grochmal’s 77th-minute goal was the difference in Pinkerton’s 1-0 girls’ soccer win over Bedford on Friday.
Grochmal knocked in a loose ball in front of goal off a corner kick by Andrea Galvan for the winner.
“The ball landed in front of the Bedford goalie and our girl was in the right place to put it home,” said Astros coach Steve Gundrum.
“They outpossessed us but I think we outchanced them,” Gundrum said.
Both teams played it close with neither side able to create much in attack. Defenses on both sides were able to break up passes.
Bedford coach Michelle Winning thought her team had the upper hand for a good part of the game, but Pinkerton capitalized on their chance.
“We couldn’t finish.” Winning said. “We controlled the game, but we couldn’t put the ball in the net. They did.”
“This was an important win, a confidence builder,” said Gundrum. “We beat a very good Bedford team”
The Astros are now in second in Division I. Bedford falls to fourth.
