BRENTWOOD — A Nottingham teenager who allegedly broke into a home and sexually assaulted a 44-year-old woman while she slept in her bed has been indicted by a grand jury, according to prosecutors.
Zachery D. Lajoie, 17, is facing two counts of felony burglary and a pair of misdemeanor sexual assault charges for allegedly breaking into the woman's home on July 31, court records say.
The indictments were returned by a grand jury earlier this month in Rockingham County Superior Court.
Lajoie first entered the apartment around 5:10 a.m. looking for cigarettes when he found the woman asleep in her bedroom, according to court records.
Lajoie then left the apartment to get a bottle of lotion from his home, and returned to the apartment, according to court records.
Lajoie allegedly told police that he returned to the home with the intention of having sex with the woman, according to court records.
The woman woke up and found a naked young man standing over her, police said. Indictments say that Lajoie straddled the woman on the bed and held her down while assaulting her.
Lajoie faces two misdemeanor counts of sexual assault for those offenses. Each count carries up to a one-year jail term and $2,000 fine.
The two burglary charges are felonies, each punishable by up to 3 ½ to 7 years in state prison, according to indictments.
Lajoie was initially charged with a count of aggravated felonious sexual assault when he was arrested back in July.
He was not indicted on that charge, and now only faces misdemeanors. Lajoie will be arraigned on the new charges later this month in Rockingham County Superior Court. email@example.com
