Div. I NHIAA field hockey tourney starts today

The NHIAA Division I field hockey tournament begins today at 3 p.m. with four preliminary round games.

According to Salem coach John Gatsas, fifth-ranked Timberlane of Plaistow will host 12th-ranked Concord and sixth-seeded Merrimack will entertain 11th-seeded Londonderry. Seventh-place Bedford will welcome 10th-place Manchester Central and eighth-ranked Keene will greet ninth-ranked Bishop Guertin of Nashua.

Winnacunnet of Hampton, Pinkerton Academy of Derry, Salem and Exeter have each drawn a first-round bye. On Friday in the quarterfinals, the winner of the Keene-Bishop Guertin match will travel to Winnacunnet and the winner of the Bedford-Central game will journey to Derry to play the Astros. Salem will host the winner of the Merrimack-Londonderry contest and Exeter will host the winner between Timberlane and Concord.

The semifinals are set for Tuesday, Oct. 29 at Exeter at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. On Sunday, Nov. 3 at 5 p.m. the finals will be held at Bedford High.

The Division III tournament begins Wednesday, while the Division II tourney begins Thursday.
