Toffoli's two goals lead Manchester Monarchs by Sharks

The Manchester Monarchs remained undefeated in regulation and have the most points in the AHL after a 4-1 win at Worcester Wednesday night.

The Monarchs (5-0-3 for 13 points) will host the St. John's IceCaps for two games at Verizon Wireless Arena Friday (7 p.m.) and Saturday (3 p.m.).

The game was close until late when the Monarchs scored twice in the final 90 seconds. Tanner Pearson broke a scoreless deadlock 32 seconds into the second period, notching his fourth goal of the year. Tyler Toffoli set up the score. Toffoli netted his fourth of the season in the third period, blasting a pass from Linden Vey into the net at 4:29 to make it 2-0.

Worcester pulled within one with a power-play goal at 7:32. Daniil Tarasov beat Martin Jones from close range to make it 2-1.

The Sharks (1-3-0) pressured late and had a near-miss in front of the cage, but Jones weathered the storm and Manchester defenseman Nick Deslauriers skated the other way and beat Harri Sateri to make it 3-2 with 90 seconds left. Toffoli scored his second goal on an empty net at 19:11 to put the game away. Toffoli leads the team with five goals.
