STODDARD - A Marlow man is charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated after two accidents Friday morning, one in Roxbury and the other a head-on crash in Stoddard that seriously injured him and the other driver, state police said.
At 1:18 a.m. Friday, a hit-and-run was reported on Route 9 in Roxbury. Witnesses told investigators a vehicle hit a telephone pole and then left the scene.
While troopers were heading to that crash site, a two-car, head-on crash on Route 9 in Stoddard was reported.
State police said a preliminary investigation of that collision revealed Jay Smith, 50, of Marlow was driving east on Route 9 in Stoddard when he crossed over into the westbound lane and hit another car head-on, causing serious injuries to himself and the driver of the other vehicle.
State police said a preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle Smith was driving was the same one that hit the telephone pole in Roxbury.
Both drivers were transported to Cheshire Medical Center in Keene. Smith was arrested at the hospital for aggravated driving while intoxicated.
Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact Trooper Thomas Byrne at 603-358-3333.
