High School Roundup: Lebanon scores overtime win in field hockey tournament

It didn't take long for second-ranked Lebanon to respond to goalie Emily Foster's huge overtime save.

Dina D'Cruze scored at the 3:03 mark of the extra period to lead the Raiders to a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Goffstown in the quarterfinals of the Division II field hockey tournament Sunday.

In other quarterfinal games, top-ranked Windham blanked eighth-ranked Plymouth 2-0, sixth-ranked Merrimack Valley of Penacook ousted third-ranked Souhegan of Amherst 2-1, and fifth-ranked St. Thomas Aquinas of Dover outlasted fourth-ranked Kennett of Conway 2-1 in a match decided on a penalty corner in the eighth round.
Lebanon 3, Goffstown 2: In Lebanon, Foster kept her team's season alive when she thwarted a three-on-one rush by Goffstown in overtime. Lebanon scored on its ensuing rush when D'Cruze deflected a shot from linemate Emily Perryman and poked the ball into the cage for the game-winner.

"Credit goes to Emily Foster for making that huge save in overtime," said Lebanon coach Deb Beach. "Goffstown played us tough today. We needed time to shake off some rust because we last played eight days ago and it showed. But I kept telling my team to keep fighting. Emily Perryman came up with two big assists and she just rises to the occasion in big games."

Brooke Whitaker of Lebanon and Sydney DuBois of Goffstown exchanged first-half goals before Goffstown took a 2-1 lead with 15:20 left on a goal from Tori Florence. Whitaker got the equalizer with 7:03 left for Lebanon (12-1-2), which meets Merrimack Valley on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Exeter in the semis.
Merrimack Valley 2, Souhegan 1: In Amherst, Erin Frost scored the game-winner off a corner with 14:48 left. Izzy Hoyt gained the assist.

Cassidy Huckins gave the visiting Pride a 1-0 first half lead off a corner pass from Olivia Thurber. Devon Hickey of Souhegan scored the tying goal in the second half. Merrimack Valley (11-4-1) ended up handing Souhegan (11-3-1) two of its losses this season.

"It was a team effort and I liked how we reacted after Souhegan tied the game," said Pride coach Kim Kenney. "No one shrugged their shoulder. We just went after the win." Merrimack Valley beat and tied Lebanon during the regular season.
Windham 2, Plymouth 0: In Windham, Courtney Sweeney scored both goals for the Jaguars, who will face St. Thomas on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Exeter High.
St. Thomas 2, Kennett 1: In Conway, Jensen Palmer scored the game-winning penalty corner and she also assisted on the first goal, scored by Riley Kane. Meghan Hayman, assisted by Brooke Lemerise, tallied for Kennett.

"It was a well-fought game," said Kennett coach Carissa Lang. "My MVP was my goalie, Lara Murnik, who stopped 17 saves. She was outstanding." Sara Henry had 12 saves for the Saints.
