Bruins top Ducks in shootout

BOSTON — Jarome Iginla scored in the second round of the shootout and Tuukka Rask denied all three attempts as the Boston Bruins overcame a sluggish start with a 3-2 win over Anaheim Thursday.

The win snapped Boston's two-game losing skid.

After each team's first shooter was denied, Iginla skated in and snapped a shot just under the crossbar. Rask (21 saves) made the slim advantage stand up by making a pad save on Corey Perry in the second round before captain Ryan Getzlaf's bid in the third caromed off the right post.

Bruins captain Zdeno Chara tied the game at 2-2 by scoring a power-play goal with 2:50 remaining in the third period. Carl Soderberg avenged a first-period miscue by netting his first NHL goal in the second for the Bruins, who mustered just one shot on goal in the first period.Anaheim's Devante Smith-Pelly netted his first goal of the campaign early in the first period before setting up Mathieu Perreault's tally with 21 seconds remaining in the second. Perreault also had an assist and Jonas Hiller turned aside 21 shots for the Ducks, who saw their three-game winning streak come to an end. After Chara drew a tripping penalty on Patrick Maroon, the hulking defenseman made Anaheim pay by tapping home David Krejci's centering feed after it slipped between the legs of Ducks blue-liner Cam Fowler.

Seven games for Scott

Buffalo Sabres forward John Scott received a seven-game suspension on Thursday for his hit on Boston Bruins forward Loui Eriksson in an Oct. 23 game.

Scott had been suspended indefinitely while awaiting his in-person hearing with the NHL's Department of Player Safety. He already has served three of the seven games.

The 31-year-old Scott delivered an illegal check to Eriksson's head at 5:49 of the third period and received a match penalty. He also was fined $26,923.05.

"Scott cuts across Eriksson and delivers a shoulder to Eriksson's head, making it the main point of contact and causing a serious injury," NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan said. "Although Eriksson is eligible to be checked on this play, he is not eligible to be checked in this fashion."

Scott will be eligible to return on Nov. 8 when the Sabres play the Anaheim Ducks. He has no points in seven games this season.
