Contested races for Dover mayor, council, school board

DOVER — Residents across the city will decide today on a new mayor and who will serve as members of city council and the school board.

School Board Chairman Rocky D’Andrea and at-large City Councilor Karen Weston both hope to serve as the next mayor when Dean Trefethen completes his term at the end of the year.

Meanwhile, five city councilors seeking re-election are being challenged: In Ward 1, John O’Connor is vying with incumbent Ed Spuler while Ward 3 Councilor Mike Crago is facing off against Deborah Thibodeaux. Councilors Bill Garrison and Catherine Cheney are running unopposed to represent Wards 2 and 5, respectively.

Thomas Seiler is challenging incumbent Dorothea Hooper in Ward 4; incumbent Michael Weeden is competing against Jason Gagnon in Ward 6. There are three candidates seeking two at-large seats on the council: Anthony McManus, Fergus Cullen and incumbent Robert Carrier.

Meanwhile on the school board, all seven seats are up for contention. Four incumbents are seeking re-election — Doris Grady, Betsey Andrews-Parker, Amanda Russell and Sarah Greenshields.

They are facing off against 10 other candidates, including Donald Andolina, Michael Castaldo, Daryl Marma, David Martin, Matthew Mayberry, Carole Soule McCammon, Rob McCrory, Carolyn Mebert, Kathleen Morrison and Michelle Diane Muffet-Lipinski.

Residents will also vote for moderators, ward clerks, supervisors of the checklist and selectmen from each ward.
The six polling places are: Ward 1 — St. Mary’s Church Hall along Chestnut Street; Ward 2 — First Parish Congregational Church at 218 Central Ave.; Ward 3 — Langdon Place at 60 Middle Rd., Ward 4 — Elks Lodge at 282 Durham Rd., Ward 5 — St. John’s Methodist Church at 28 Cataract Ave. and Ward 6 — Riverside Rest Home at 276 County Farm Road.
