LACONIA — The president and publisher of the Laconia Daily Sun, a free newspaper published five days a week, is now the city's mayor-elect.

In the council race, Armand Bolduc defeated Tony Felch in Ward 6, 282 to 170, while incumbent Ward 5 councilor Bob Hamel won over Tom Tardif, 135 to 67.. David Bownes was the winner in the Ward 2 race over Richard Beaudoin, 123 to 84.

The other three incumbent councilors — Ava Doyle (Ward 1), Henry Lipman (ward 3) and Brenda Baer (Ward 4) — were unopposed.

Engler heads up the Laconia Daily Sun, which publishes a free newspaper from Tuesday to Saturday and also has an online edition.

Of the city's 9,653 registered voters, 1,660 cast ballots or about 17 percent, according to the city clerk's office.
