NHIAA D-I Volleyball Championship: Dover finishes perfectly

DERRY -- Dover capped a perfect season with a 3-0 sweep of Salem in the NHIAA Division I girls' volleyball championship Saturday at Pinkerton Academy.

The two teams fought tough in set 1 with leads changing back and forth, but Dover emerged the winner 26-24.

Set 2 was close until midway, when Dover's Molly Wotton served up three straight aces. From that point on, Salem began to fall away.

"We started playing flat, playing nervous" said Blue Devils coach John Roemer. "We never got back to our game."

Wotton had another dominant game in her final one with the Green Wave. She finished with 8 aces along with 7 kills.

"When Molly is on with her serves, they are tough to return," Dover coach Colleen Harte said.

"It's awesome. I couldn't imagine anything better, " said Wotton about closing her career with a title. "I love this team."

Wotton has already committed to UNH next season.

Harte said she never imagined a perfect season at the start of the year.

"I thought we could win a title, I thought we had a good team," she said. "But to be undefeated? That was hard to predict."

This is Dover's first title in their 6 years of volleyball. And they have a shot next year.

"We are only losing two seniors in Wotton and (Megan) Priester, so a lot of girls will be back next season," she said.

Priester had 7 kills and 8 assists for the Green Wave. Mackenzie Geppert had 11 digs and 23 assists.

Salem's Amanda Bickford had 12 kills. Rachel Towler had 16 assists.
