NH College Football Roundup: St. Anselm gridders earn first victory

Freshman quarterback Yianni Gavalas had a tremendously productive and efficient day to lead St. Anselm to its first win of the season at Pace, 63-33.

All Gavalas did was complete 28 of his 30 passes for 316 yards and six touchdowns.

The Hawks are 1-9 overall and 1-8 in the Northeast-10. The Setters fell to 0-10 and 0-9.

Junior wide receivers Justin Bernard and Brandon Gomes were the leading pass catchers for the Hawks. Bernard caught 11 passes for 116 yards and three scores. Gomes had eight catches for 112 and a pair of TDs.

Senior running Keith Charles chipped in, too. He carried the ball 25 times for 107 yards and three touchdowns.

Mass Maritime 46, Plymouth State 44: At Buzzards Bay, Mass., junior Mark Hennessy and senior josh Morgan combined for 290 rushing yards to lead the Panthers, but they came up just short and fell to 2-9.

Hennessy carried 26 times for 143 yards and four scores and Morgan six times for 139 yards and a couple of touchdowns.

The Panthers pulled to within 39-37 on Hennessy's third TD with 11:09 left in the fourth period. Mass Maritime answered that one to go up 46-37.

Hennessy scored again with 2:31 to play to close the gap again, but Plymouth State could get no closer.
