Former Monarchs lift Kings over Islanders

UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- Three ex-Monarchs, including one called up on Wednesday, led the Los Angeles Kings to a 3-2 comeback win over the New York Islanders on Thursday night on Long Island.

Center Tyler Toffoli, who spent the first 10 games of this season in Manchester, scored with 1:27 left in the third period to cap a three-goal, third-period comeback. Toffoli was credited with the goal when a shot by Jake Muzzin, another former Monarch, clipped off his stick and trickled past Islanders goalie Kevin Poulin.

Defenseman Slava Voynov and left winger Tanner Pearson scored earlier in the period for the Kings (12-6-1), who won two days after losing goalie Jonathan Quick to a Grade 2 groin strain. Goalie Ben Scrivens, making just his second start of the year, had 23 saves for the Kings.

Voynov was a longtime Monarch before settling in with L.A. last season. Pearson was called up from Manchester only Wednesday; the game was his second in the NHL and the goal was his first point in the NHL.
