Dodgeball tournament raises money for service club

MANCHESTER — Manchester Community College is teaming with the New Hampshire Sports & Social Club for a charity dodgeball tournament and raffle to benefit the "Give Kids The World Village" in Florida and the MCC Community Service Club.

While some grade schools say dodgeball is too dangerous for students, there's no such ban on grownups playing the game for fun and fundraising. The tournament and raffle are Tuesday between 5 and 10 p.m. at MCC's new Student Center. There will be at least 14 teams playing in the tournament, although, in deference to skill and perhaps bravery levels, there are "minnow" as well as "shark" divisions.

The deadline for signups is Sunday. The minnow division is filled, but there is still room for sharks. The cost is $10 per person. You can sign up as an individual, or eight people can enter as a team.

To sign up,visit www.mccnh.edu and click on charity dodgeball tournament for signup information.

Students are raising money to send the MCC Community Service Team to Florida to volunteer at the Village, where children with life threatening illnesses and their families from around the world can enjoy a memorable, cost-free visit to the Central Florida attractions and enjoy the "magic" of the village in Kissimmee.

The raffle includes more than 30 items, valued from $10 to nearly $270. The public is invited to watch the games in the multi-purpose room and bid on the raffle items.
