Monarchs drop one to Portland; 'Mullets in Movember' tonight at home


 

The undermanned Manchester Monarchs fell 4-1 to the Portland Pirates on Friday night at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston, Maine.

The team is at home tonight against Norfolk in the Mullets in Movember promotion game. Face-off is 7 p.m.

Scott Sabourin scored Manchester's goal, an even-strength strike from Zach O'Brien at 8:04 of the third period.

Gilbert Brule and Randy Jones scored first-period goals to stake Portland to a 2-0 advantage. Tobias Rieder added a power-play tally in the second frame.

After Sabourin's goal, Portland's Chris Summers restored the Pirates' three-goal margin with his first of the season 1t 15:02.

The Monarchs mustered 25 shots in the loss, with 13 coming in the final frame.

Jean-Francois Berube stopped 30 of 34 shots in goal for Manchester. Mark Visentin made 24 saves on 25 shots for Portland.
