Monarchs fall, settle for two-win weekend

Nick Larson’s fourth goal of the season at the 14-minute mark of the third period led the Bridgeport Sound Tigers to a 3-2 American Hockey League decision over the Manchester Monarchs at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Conn., Sunday.

Manchester (15-4-1-3) still leads the Atlantic Division with 34 points. Bridgeport (6-10-1-3) is fifth in the Northeast Division with 16 points.

Left wing Mike Halmo was battling for the puck in the right wing corner before he found Larson, who flipped a backhander into the net. Center Ryan Strome picked up his second point of the night with an assist on the game-winning goal.

Halmo’s eighth goal of the season gave the hosts a second period lead but Manchester tied it seven minutes later on a goal from A.J. Gale.

Left wing Andy Andreoff gave the Monarchs a 2-1 advantage at 3:12 of the third period with his fourth season goal. Sean Backman gained the assist on the play.

A minute later, the Sound Tigers tied the game. Left winger Anders Lee dropped a pass back to Strome just high of the right face-off circle. Strome wristed home his seventh goal of the season.

Manchester goalie J.F. Berube (6-3-1) stopped 29 shots and Bridgeport netminder Kenny Reiter (3-4-2) turned back 29 shots.

Both teams went 0-for-5 on the power play.

In Hartford, Conn., on Saturday, Manchester finished November with a 9-2-0-1 record after toppling the Wolf Pack, 3-1, at the XL Center.

Berube had 31 saves in the win. Cameron Burt, Nick Deslauriers and Jordan Weal were the goal scorers for Manchester.
