Monday a week ago, on yet another fundraising trip, President Obama got heckled. The upset young man was an illegal immigrant from South Korea — whose attendance at the event was approved by the White House. The 24-year-old college student (despite being here illegally) demanded that Obama halt all deportations immediately. Obama's response was a classic.
"...if I could solve all these problems without passing laws in Congress, then I would do so. But we're also a nation of laws. That's part of our tradition. And so the easy way out is to try to yell and pretend like I can do something by violating our laws."
This is the President who imposed the unpassed Dream Act by executive order. This is the President whose administration has issued many exemptions from and delays of the duly passed Obamacare. Just last month Obama himself personally exempted insurers from the Obamacare requirement that health plans be canceled and replaced by new ones mandated under the law. Since it has been passed, the White House has serially rewritten Obamacare on the fly — without the required approval of Congress.
This is the administration in which the IRS obstructs opposition organizations during an election year and the administrator in charge takes the 5th Amendment rather than tell Congress what the IRS was doing.
President Obama believes in the supremacy of Congress and the rule of law? If only he did.
