Hooksett officer struck by motorist

HOOKSETT - A Hooksett police officer is recovering from injuries after being hit by a car late Tuesday afternoon while directing traffic at the intersection of Bicentennial and Donati drives.

Police said Officer Michael Zappala was struck by a car Karen Peterson of Hooksett. Zappala was taken to the Elliot Hospital in Manchester where he was treated for injuries police described as not life-threatening and then released.

The accident happened just before 6 p.m. Police said Peterson did not see Zappala and hit him with the right front passenger side of her car, propelling him up onto the windshield on his left side.

Police said speed does not appear to be a factor.

Peterson's car was towed from the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
