UPDATE: Thornton woman dies after being struck by car in Campton

CAMPTON — A Thornton woman was killed Tuesday when she was hit by a car while crossing the street, police Chief Christopher Warn said.

Sarah Leech-Black, 29, was crossing Route 49 about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday when she was hit by a car driven by Bethany Ames, 35, of Thornton, Warn said.

Leech-Black was taken to Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth for treatment. She was then taken to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical center in Lebanon, where she died later in the evening, Warn said.

Warn said an autopsy has been requested to determine the exact cause of death.

Neither speed nor alcohol are believed to be factors and Ames was not charged, Warn said. He said "inadequate lighting" at the accident scene was "a contributing issue."
