Hanover’s Grabill named top regional soccer coach

Hanover High boys’ soccer coach Rob Grabill has been named the National Soccer Coaches Association Region 1 New England Large School Coach of the Year. Grabill is now one of eight finalists for the NSCAA National COY, which will be named in January.

Grabill was a New Hampshire Coach of the Year winner in 2007 and 2008, and a Region 1 COY winner in 2007.

Grabill has coached soccer at Hanover for 11 years, the last eight has head coach. As head coach he has won six state titles (five in Division II) and has compiled a 135-9-10 overall record.

The program joined the Division I ranks in 2012. Hanover lost to Central in the 2012 finals and beat Alvirne of Hudson for the 2013 championship last month. This year’s team outscored its opponents 66-5 and posted 16 shutouts en route to a 19-0-1 season.

Under Grabill, Hanover has been awarded six NHIAA Sportsmanship Awards.

In 20 games this year, Hanover received one yellow card and will receive an NSCAA Silver Ethics Award for that distinction.

Grabill coached at Derryfield School from 1975-78 before jumping to the college ranks, where he compiled a 99-59-12 record in nine seasons with Southern New Hampshire University.

In his final two years with the Penmen, he led the program to its first two NCAA berths. In his final coaching season, he was named NCAA Division II Region 1 Coach of the Year.
