Woman allegedly tries to drive over man
MANCHESTER — A man and woman were arrested Thursday night after an argument that allegedly included him reaching through her car window and her punching him and trying to run him over.
Merlin Garcia-Santos, 28, was standing outside the open car window of and "engaged in a physical altercation" with Omayra Morales, 26, while at the intersection of Cedar and Wilson streets about 9:45 p.m. Thursday, police said in a release.
After he walked away, Morales, who had a 4-year-old child in the car, got out and started punching him, then got back into her car and drove up onto a sidewalk "in an apparent effort to strike him with the vehicle," the release said.
Garcia-Santos was able to jump out of the car's path, but afterward ran up to the car and "again engaged the woman in a physical confrontation through the open window," then struggled with an officer before he was subdued, the release said.
Garcia-Santos was charged with resisting arrest. Morales was charged with reckless conduct, simple assault and, after police allegedly found a marijuana cigarette in her car, with drug possession. She was also charged with driving on a sidewalk and, because the child was not in a car seat, charged with not using a proper child restraint.
