NEW IPSWICH — The director of the cafeteria at Mascenic Regional High School was arrested after sending what police say were “inappropriate electronic messages to a minor child.”
William Geffe, 40, of Hollis, an employee of Café Services, a food service management company based in Londonderry, was arrested at his home on Nov. 30 by New Ipswich and Hollis police. According to Lt. Sean Cavanaugh of the New Ipswich Police Department, Geffe repeatedly contacted a 15-year-old girl at Mascenic Regional High School via Facebook and Google email.
The girl, according to Cavanaugh, reported the contact by Geffe to a teacher she trusted and the school district contacted police. After an investigation by the New Hampshire Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force along with police in New Ipswich, Peterborough and Hampton, arrest and search warrants were issued for Geffe and his property. When the home where Geffe was staying in Hollis was searched, several electronic devices were seized and Geffe was arrested.
Geffe was charged with one felony count of “certain uses of computer services prohibited” and was originally held on $10,000 cash bail. On Dec. 2, he waived probable cause at the 8th Circuit Court in Jaffrey, and his bail was amended to $10,000 cash or corporate surety. Cavanaugh said that Geffe has since been released on bail.
“We have no reason to believe this is anything more than an isolated incident,” said Cavanaugh. “He didn’t have any prior record.”
But police are asking the public to report any other instances where Geffe may have made inappropriate contact with a minor.
In the meantime, Geffe is on unpaid suspension from Café Services until the case is resolved in court, said Café Services Human Resources Director Jaime Matheson.
Matheson said that Geffe underwent a thorough background check and his references were checked prior to being hired.
“He passed all of the pre-employment screening,” she said.
The charge against Geffe will now be sent to Hillsborough County Superior Court for possible indictment by a grand jury.
