Gale lifts Monarchs to 3-1 win

A.J. Gale scored a pair of goals to break a 1-1 deadlock and lead the Manchester Monarchs to a 3-1 win over the host Worcester Sharks Friday night.

The Monarchs play at Adirondack tonight at 7 and close the weekend with a visit from Bridgeport Sunday at 3 p.m. at Verizon Wireless Arena for the annual Teddy Bear Toss. Fans are asked to bring a new stuffed animal to donate after Manchester's first goal by tossing it onto the ice.

The game was tied after two periods of play and Gale gave Manchester its first lead of the game at 3:28 of the third frame.

Scott Sabourin's hard pass/shot from the top of the left circle was redirected by Gale in front to make it 2-1.

Gale gave the Monarchs an insurance marker at 6:49. Defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk's shot from the point was stopped by goalie Troy Grosenick, but the rebound popped Sabourin, who tapped the puck to Gale for an easy put-back. It was Sabourin's second helper of the game and Gale's second goal (third of the season).

From there, Monarchs' goalie J.F. Berube held on to pick up his eighth win of the season on the strength of a 39-save performance.

Daniil Tarasov gave Worcester a 1-0 lead at 19:04 of the first period, beating Berube from the slot for a power-play goal.

Manchester tied the game with the only goal of the second period. Captain Andrew Campbell netted his first goal of the season with a blast to beat Grosenick at 16:04.
