Tuesday's Mega Millions jackpot now at $585 million
Lottery officials have just raised the estimate for Tuesday night's Mega Millions jackpot to $585 million, with an estimated one-time cash payout option of $316.5 million. (Estimated jackpot amounts are before taxes.) This remains the 2nd largest jackpot ever in the 17-year history of Mega Millions, and the fourth-largest ever in the U.S.
No one matched the six winning numbers to win the top prize of $425 million in Friday night's drawing.
"Ticket sales for Mega Millions are off the charts as this jackpot continues to roll higher," said Charlie McIntyre, executive director of the New Hampshire Lottery. "There has even been some discussion that this jackpot could top the previous record of $656 million."
If one ticket matches all six numbers for the $586 million mega-jackpot, the winner will have the choice of receiving the full jackpot in 30 annual payments, or a cash option of $316.5 million. This jackpot has been growing since Oct. 1, when Mega Millions had its most recent jackpot winner. The jackpot has now rolled 21 times without a winner.
The largest Mega Millions jackpot ever was $656 million won on March 30, 2012. Three winners from Ottawa, Kansas; Red Bud, Illinois; and Milford Mill, Maryland, shared that prize.
