Driver arrested after nearly hitting Canaan police chief

James Allen Morse of Concord. (Canaan PD)

CANAAN - A Concord man who allegedly recklessly drove his car through downtown Canaan during the Christmas in Canaan festivities Wednesday night after nearly hitting Police Chief Samuel Frank was arrested on charges of reckless conduct with a deadly weapon and disobeying a police officer, police said in a release.
Police said James Allen Morse, 20, was being pursued by Danbury police on Route 4 about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and was approaching the town of Canaan "at a high rate of speed."
Police placed spikes on Route 4 to try to stop him, but Morse kept going. He nearly hit Frank and "recklessly traveled through the crowded downtown Canaan area," the release said.
Morse stopped nearby the former Lebanon Junior High School building on Bank Street and was arrested, the release said.
