BRENTWOOD — A Newmarket man was indicted on charges that he sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl and provided the girl with marijuana when the two met at a local baseball park, according to prosecutors.
Corey Ferland, 21, was indicted on two counts of felonious sexual assault, and a charge of dispensing a controlled drug in Rockingham County Superior Court.
He also faces a misdemeanor sexual assault charge.
The felonious sexual assault charges are Class B felonies, punishable by up to 3 ½ to 7 years in state prison.
Prosecutors say Ferland was free on bail at the time of the alleged assault, awaiting trial on charges of manufacturing and possessing child pornography. He was indicted on those charges, involving another girl, in June.
The girl in the latest case told Newmarket police that she met Ferland around 1 a.m. on Sept. 8 and had a sexual encounter with him.
She and Ferland decided to meet at a local bus stop while communicating through Pinger, a text messaging service used on computers, according to a police affidavit. Police say Ferland had a sexual encounter with the girl at a baseball park off of Elm Street.
Ferland also allegedly gave the girl marijuana to smoke while at the park. He is currently being held at the Rockingham County jail in Brentwood.
Hampton police said they arrested Ferland on Feb. 20 while executing a search warrant at his home. He allegedly sent sexually explicit photos of his 17-year-old ex-girlfriend to her father.
He was indicted on four counts of distribution of child sex abuse images, two counts of manufacturing child sex abuse images and two counts of possession of child sex abuse images.
A conviction for manufacture of child sexual abuse images carries a state prison sentence of up to 15 to 30 years behind bars.
Ferland could also face 10 to 20 years in state prison on each of the distribution and possession charges, according to the indictments.
